3 Days Uganda Gorilla Flying Safari

This 3 Days Uganda Gorilla Flying Safari is a quick primate safari through Uganda that allows you to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the most well-known and best place in the world for gorilla trekking.

The world’s largest population of mountain gorillas and the greatest number of habituated groups of gorillas that are accessible to tourists can be found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will visit these habituated gorilla families during your safari.

Located in Uganda’s extreme southwest, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a long day’s drive from Kampala, the starting point of most Bwindi safaris. The drive takes about ten hours. This safari is usually a flying safari, which means you fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to Kihihi Airstrip, which serves the Buhoma Sector of Bwindi, to avoid a long drive.

For a taste of local culture, consider visiting the Batwa pygmies, also referred to as the forest people, if you took an early flight. An alternative is to take a guided forest walk in the Bwindi forests, where you can see numerous birds as well as primates like olive baboons and black and white colobus monkeys.

Day 2: Tracking Gorillas

After enjoying an early breakfast, proceed to Bwindi Forest to experience mountain gorilla tracking. At 8:00 am, you and other guests will gather at the park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of mountain gorilla trekking.

You will be paired with a gorilla family in groups of eight, and together you will travel to the gorilla trekking starting point and into the Bwindi forests in search of mountain gorillas. The gorilla family you are tracking and their previous night’s whereabouts determine how long the tracking process takes. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to more than 6 hours.

You will have an hour to spend with the gorillas once you find them. It is recommended that you maintain a distance of about eight feet from the gorillas while you observe them going about their daily lives in the Bwindi forests, with the babies among them playing on three branches. As long as your flash light is off to avoid frightening the gorillas, you can take pictures and videos.

The walk back to the park’s headquarters to pick up your gorilla certificates, after which you go to your lodge and unwind for the remainder of the evening. Alternatively, you can go to the Batwa Community, which is located near the park’s boundaries. You can visit the medicine man, get a better understanding of the Batwa way of life, and enjoy local theatre and dance in these communities. After dinner, spend the night.
