About Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park)
The Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa, covering 54,600 square kilometers. The reserve gets its name from the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous. He was killed here during World War 1. Selous is famous for elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but more shy then the Northern Parks. Excursions by 4×4 vehicle will permit you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of vast park. The Selous Game Reserve is now called Nyerere National Park.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Selous Game Reserve, Boat Cruise
On the first day of the safari you will leave Zanzibar on a ferry at 7am for Dar es Salaam from where your guide shall pick you and transfer you to Selous Game Reserve. Selous is quite a distance so you will arrive by mid-day and on arrival and after lunch; you will go for a boat ride in the Rufiji River. Crocodiles, hippos and hippos can be seen here as well as other animals as they converge to quench their thirst. Crocodiles take advantage to hunt their prey and you might be treated to sights of animal action if lucky. Overnight at Selous Kinga Lodge perched right at the banks of Rufiji River.

Day 2: Game Drive in Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park), Walking Safari

Check in at the lodge, relax as you wait for dinner and an overnight stay at Camp Bastian.

Day 4: Game Drive in Mikumi, Departure
