It is only this place where humans live together with wild animals; in 1959, this conservation area was established. Ngorongoro Crater is a must place to visit while on a Tanzania wildlife safari; you can expect to see as much as possible wildlife inside the crater, such as black rhinos, wildebeests, zebras, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and many species of antelopes. Game drives can be done all day long or twice a day, from morning and evening hours.

Birds to see in Ngorongoro Crater Safari Tour: Most endemic birds, such as the Rufous Tailed Weaver, black-winged lapwings, Usambara weavers, and secretary birds are found inside the Ngorongoro crater, more than five hundred avian species have been recorded in this area both migratory and resident birds can be spotted here, the best time to see much of bird’s life is from June to October and December to May.

Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater: The crater is just 4 hours from Arusha town. This makes it possible for a day tour visit, but to have a great time and engage in a relaxed game drive, our team at Sweet Escape Tours and Safaris in Arusha advises to at least spend two nights close to the crater; this will mark an incredible memory that breathtaking crater has to offer, for those who are planning to go to Serengeti National Park this is an important stopover. Some of the lodges here may cost 200 USD to 800 USD per person per night, but the services and experience are worth it.

Nature Walking Safaris in Ngorongoro Crater: The best way to explore and come closer to nature is by participating in a walking safari guided by an armed ranger. Ngorongoro National Park authority offers a spectacular guided nature walk around the Ngorongoro Crater rim, Empakaai caldera; it also is possible to walk through a Maasai Village northwest of the Ngorongoro Crater and head to Ol Doinyo Lengai, Doinyo Lengai located in Lake Natron.

What is Ngorongoro Famous for? It is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa; the crater formed nearly 3 million years ago, the crater is 610 meters deep, and its surface covers a distance of 260 square kilometers; animals like lions and cheetahs live in harmony with Maasai community inside the Ngorongoro area, the remains of the earliest Homo sapiens is found in Olduvai Gorge/ Oldupai Gorge within the Ngorongoro Area at a border between Serengeti National Park on the northern. Mary and Louis Leakey were the first to discover this study of human evolution.

Shifting Sand in Ngorongoro Crater: This is another unique and lovely component of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As a result of volcanic ashes produced by an active Ol doing Lengai Mountain at the rate of 17 meters each year, the Mountain blows away slowly small black dunes from north to west of the Mountain, combining this experience with the Serengeti Park tour brings a unique feeling of nature. Local Maasai People who live near this area call this Ol Doinyo Lengai a “Mountain of God.” During the toughest or unprecedented moments like droughts, Maasai people gather at the base of the mountain and slaughter goats as a sign of praying for luck.
