Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura Gorge

Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura Gorge: The expansive kyambura George, pronounced by locals as “Chambura,” is the magnificent valley of apes in the Queen Elizabeth national park in Uganda. It is located in the Eastern part of the park and is drained by the river kyambura. It was formed by the river’s erratic water flows and is about 100 metres deep. The landscape is so breathtaking and one of the best you can find in the world.

However, researchers have proven that there are over sixteen chimpanzees in this valley of the apes, making it one of the areas not to avoid while visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kyambura Gorge offers breathtaking views of the rain forest and is located not far from where the equator crosses the Kyambura.

Chimpanzees live in Kyambura, one of the few places in Queen Elizabeth National Park where visitors can see these primates and do chimpanzee trekking safari. However, because the area serves as a water supply for other park inhabitants, it is also home to a variety of other fauna and birds.

Reservations for trekking chimpanzees can be made at mweya information centre within Queen Elizabeth.

The stunning flamingos are drawn to the steep slopes of Kyambura George as well. The riverine forests that shelter the area also draw enormous numbers of primates, including chimpanzees, white colobus monkeys, red Columbus monkeys, olive baboons and among others. The African Skimmer, Papyrus Canary, White-Tailed Lark, Vereux Eagle Owl, Lesser and Greater Flamingoes, Shoebill Chapins Flycatcher, and other birds are frequently observed. To really experience Kyambura George’s natural beauty, one must go on a nature-guided tour with an expert tour guide. Kyambura George can go on a private safari to the Savannah-encircled Queen Elizabeth National Park. There are several more national parks in East Africa where chimpanzees can be trekked, including Kibale Forest, Kalinzu Forest, Budongo Forest in Murchison falls national park, Nyungwe Forest national park in Rwanda, Gombe Stream in Tanzania, and Mahale Mountains in Tanzania.
