Ruaha National Park

Situated in Southern Tanzania, roughly 135 kilometres from Iringa town, Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s second largest national park and the largest protected area in East Africa. The total area of ecological areas is 20,226 square kilometres. This park was owned by the British and German Colonial Authorities before regaining its status as a National Park in 1964. German colonial authority dubbed it Saba Game Reserve in 1910; it became Rungwa Game Reserve in 1946. This park offers the best elements of a southern circuit safari: cheetahs, elusive leopards, and seldom seen wild dogs.

The Great Ruaha River, which flows through the centre of the park, is the source of life for the whole area. The Tanzanian government uses the water to produce electricity as well.

Night game safari in Ruaha National Park:

Sweet Escape Tours and Safaris works hard to make sure your African safari tour is colourful and offers the best bush night game drive in Ruaha National Park. You will be escorted by one of our knowledgeable safari guides, who will be accompanied by a professional armed tour ranger, during these activities. Ruaha Park partner safari lodges such as Jabali Ridge offer this special and delightful experience. We believe that the best way to explore the wildlife during the night is to go on a night game adventure. The majority of the rarely seen animals, such as common genet and bush babies, can be seen; our guides look for these creatures in the bushes and shrubs using the spotlight. There is nowhere else in the world like Africa for a once-in-a-lifetime experience like going on a night game safari.

Things to do and see in Ruaha National Park:

There are many animals to see in Ruaha National Park, including all five of the Big Five animals, such as lions, leopards, and elephants. It is unlike any other park in Africa.

Encountering the breathtaking Mdonya Old River on guided nature walks is like being on a safari.

Thousands of migratory birds can be seen in the park; it’s an excellent place for birdwatchers.

This is a honeymooner’s paradise; the Great East Africa Valley crosses through the park, providing breathtaking views and scenery.

This area is the driest park during the year; from May to December, the greenery vanishes and the area becomes accessible to visitors as animals gather along the riverbanks to drink, making it a great place to see the magnificent wildlife.

Ruaha Safaris can be combined with either the Selous or Serengeti National Parks; flying from Dar es Salaam or Serengeti National Park is an easy way to get there. The two primary airstrips within the park are Msembe Airstrip and Jongomero Airstrip.
