12 Days Rwanda Safari Tour

This 12 Days Rwanda Safari Tour will take you to some of Rwanda’s most amazing destinations.

Day 1: Kigali

Your Sweet Escape Tours and Safaris driver guide will meet and greet you when you arrive at Kigali International Airport. Before escorting you to your hotel for your overnight stay in Kigali, he or she will give you a briefing on your safari. At your hotel, unwind.

Day 2: Kigali – Nyungwe Forest National Park

After early morning breakfast, you will drive into the Nyungwe Forest. On the way you will visit Nyanza King’s Palace, the national museum of Butare, and the genocide memorial of Murambi. The ancient Rwandan Kingdom had its capital, Nyanza, before the Europeans arrived. King Mutura’s elegantly furnished modern palace, constructed in 1934, is located within the compound.

Day 3: Nyungwe Forest National Park, 12-Day Rwandan Safari
You will track the Nyungwe Colobus monkey by entering the Nyungwe Forest after breakfast. You will learn something new on a forest walk with our experienced guides who are well-versed in ornithology, botany, and interspecies relationships. After lunch, you will spend the night at the hotel and return to the guest house.

Day 4: Nyungwe Forest National Park

You’ll be in the Nyungwe Forest for the second time today. You have two options for what to do in the morning: a nature walk to the waterfalls or the Nyungwe canopy walk. You will see the Colobus monkeys darting through the trees after lunch. You will spend the night at the hotel.

Day 5: Nyungwe – Kibuye

You will make the five-hour trip from Gisakura to Kibuye early in the morning. You will see vistas of Kivu Lake and thousands of stunning green hills that make up our nation while travelling. You will spend the night at the Betania Guest House.

Day 6: Kibuye – Gisenyi

You can choose to take a speed boat or a car for your transfer to Gisenyi today. You will stop along the route to take in the breathtaking views of some of the Congolese hills and the various islands around Lake Kivu. You will spend the night at the hotel.

Day 7: Gisenyi

At Kivu Serena Beach, you’ll swim and relax for the duration of the day. After breakfast and beach time, you will take a drive to Musanze, which is the base town for gorilla visits. Experience the Ibyiwacu cultural village before spending the night at the hotel.

Day 8: Volcanoes National Park

12 Days Rwanda Safari Tour
Gorilla

You will be taken to Volcanoes National Park for your first gorilla trek early in the morning after breakfast. Before setting out on your trek, you will arrive at the main office at 7:00 am for a briefing and coffee break. You will spend the night at the hotel.

Day 9: Musanze

Today you are going to Volcanoes National Park to see the golden monkeys. Prior to your trek, you will once more need to report to the main office at 7:00 am for a briefing. Come back at midday and proceed to explore the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. You will spend the night at the hotel.

Day 10: Musanze – Akagera National Park

After breakfast in the morning, you will be driven via Kigali to Akagera National Park. You will eat lunch here and then proceed to drive into Akagera National Park. After taking a boat ride to Lake Ihema in the afternoon, you will visit Akagera to observe birds. You will spend the night at the lodge.

Day 11: Akagera National Park – Kigali

You’re going to take a game drive in the park after breakfast. On Rwanda’s eastern border with Tanzania lies Akagera National Park. Currently in charge of this park’s management, African Parks has done a fantastic job with conservation. There used to be a lot of disputes between people and the park, but these were resolved by introducing community tours and fencing off a portion of the area, encouraging visitors to visit the communities and reap the benefits.

Rwanda’s only savannah park, Akagera National Park is home to a variety of mammal species. These include water bucks, bush bucks, hippos, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, Kobs, and, most recently, the introduction of black rhinos from South Africa. As it was many years ago, Akagera National Park is now formally recognised as one of the Big Five parks. Numerous bird species can be found there in a variety of habitats, including lakes, savannah, woodlands, and swamps.

Day 12: Kigali

Depending on your flight of departure, you might take an optional tour of the Ntarama Church after breakfast. At the Rwandan genocide in 1994, over 5,000 people died at this location. The Bugasera region, 30 kilometres south of Kigali, is home to this genocide memorial. The interior of this church serves as a constant reminder of the horrific acts of violence. While you’re here, find out more about the Unity and Reconciliation Commission.
